Nonprofit

“Nona was able to juggle the various entrepreneurial activities and responsibilities associated with a new program in a large city using volunteers with different skill sets, but common enthusiasm. As the program matured, and volunteers left or came on, Nona coordinated training and liability insurance.”
-Alan Thompson, Senior Transportation Planner, Southern California Association of Governments 2017

The internet may have changed the world, but too frequently opportunities, money and focus hasn’t been on making our world a better or more equal place. Americans are facing serious problems that nonprofits can address head on. My primary focus has always been transportation cycling, because in many ways it is a ‘magic bullet’ that addresses’ so many problems through an elegant and (usually) fun answer.

Addressing education and job opportunities through transportation? Yeah – bikes!

Women’s rights? There’s a historical precedent for the current movement.

Human health and safety? From childhood to old age {safe, socially supported} bicycling can greatly reduce human suffering and lead to dramatic improvement in the quality of life.

Ok, what about the environment? Bicycles are a sustainable form of transportation that have an extremely light environmental impact – even as they encourage humans to explore farther into the wilderness… or their own neighborhoods. And those experiences make people connected to their environment, which fosters good stewardship.
